Field of activity, specialization: theoretical physics, theory of condensed matter

Topics: ab-initio calculations of the electronic structure and magnetic properties of imperfect solids (alloys, surfaces, and interfaces); the study of ordering and phase stability of solids; the interaction of radiation with disordered solids (X-ray spectra, photoemission); many-body problem (electron correlations in solids, theory of Auger spectra); theory of interlayer coupling in metallic multilayers; the study of exchange interactions in metals and in multilayers; magnetotransport in layered systems.

Activity in the last 5 years: close collaboration with Technical University in Vienna (ab-initio theory of the electronic structure and transport properties of metallic magnetic multilayers) and with the Max-Planck Institut in Halle (giant magnetoresistance in metallic multilayers; exchange interactions in metals and metallic multilayers); newly established collaborations with the University of Uppsala and the Institute Laue and Langevin, Grenoble (exchange interactions in random alloys, in dilute magnetic semiconductor in particular, evaluation of critical temperatures)

Publications: 195 original publications and reviewed contributions at conferences, co-author of one monograph. Member of the team on the short list for the Descartes Prize 2004 of the European Community for the scientific collaboration.
